Our apprentices are our

team leaders and managers of the future

70% of our managers in technical roles first joined the company as apprentices. After gaining experience on site, some people rapidly progress into office-based or management roles or even teaching. There’s also a team leader grading structure that allows people to progress to earning higher fix rates and more holidays if they would prefer to continue working on site.

With a range of structured career paths, we’re pleased to be able to offer a variety of long-term options for those who ‘graduate’ from our apprenticeship programme.

Usually you’ll spend one day a week attending training with a group of up to 12 other apprentices, either in-person at one of our training centres (Gloucester, Bracknell, Exeter, Birmingham or Milton Keynes) or from home via Microsoft Teams.

During the days you’re working on site, your team leader will train you to master increasingly complex tasks. Most of our team leaders have benefitted from our career progression opportunities after completing the apprenticeship themselves so they know the importance of high-quality on-the-job training.

The final stage to becoming a qualified electrician is the AM2S end-point practical assessment and you’ll either complete this at our centre in Gloucester or at another AM2 centre closer to home.



At the start of the apprenticeship, you will be paid at least the minimum rate of pay you’re entitled to as an apprentice but, right from the start, our productivity bonus is an incentive to work efficiently.

This graph shows the approximate weekly earnings of current Clarkson Evans apprentices at different stages of their apprenticeship. Keep in mind that these are average earnings so some apprentices are earning more than this and some are earning less.

The number of years it will take to complete your apprenticeship will vary depending on your previous experience and qualifications. It could take up to four years to complete.

Once qualified, many of our electricians go on to become Team Leaders at Clarkson Evans. Our Team Leaders currently earn £950 per week on average.

All of the work we do is on new-build housing developments being constructed by major national housebuilders such as Barratt, Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon. As a Clarkson Evans apprentice you would be based at one of our branches but you may only visit the branch to collect materials, meet colleagues or perhaps attend training. Your day-to-day work would be on building sites, usually within an hour’s drive of the branch.

• Aged 18 or over (due to health & safety restrictions). Our apprentices tend to be a bit older than in many businesses, with an average starting age of 23.

• Qualified to drive

• Good at English and maths. Normally we look for GCSE Grade C/4 or above but we also carry out our own testing as part of the selection process

• A practical person who enjoys DIY

• Interested in developing a long-term career with us

• Flexible and willing to accept that it won’t be a 9-to-5 job. You’ll need to be prepared for early starts and unpredictable late finishes occasionally.
