Students who will be receiving an outside scholarship must report this to the Office of Financial Aid to ensure that their financial aid packaging maximizes a student’s unmet need.Upon receipt, the check will be posted to the student’s tuition/fee account to reduce their semester costs. If the award results in a credit balance on the semester tuition/fee account, a refund will be issued within 7-10 business days.

Outside Scholarship Opportunities
Arizona Community Foundation Scholarship
The Gratitude Scholarship for the UNMC College of Medicine has been established at the Arizona Community Foundation by Dr. Deborah L. Lindquist. The Foundation will award $10,000 annually.
Dr. Lindquist grew up in Plattsmouth, NE and received her first UNMC Degree in Medical Technology, then returned to medical school at UNMC as a second career student, graduating in 1980. She trained in hematology/oncology and specialized in breast cancer treatment, serving patients in Northern Arizona for over 30 years. She created the scholarship out of deep gratitude for her medical education.

The scholarship may be renewable for up to four (4) years, provided the student meets the qualifying criteria and is approved by the Arizona Community Foundation for renewal.
Applicant qualifications are:
- Demonstrating financial need
- Adult re-entry, i.e. students who began one career path, but then applied to COM, or students who have taken a non-traditional route to medical school
- Students must be enrolled full-time at the UNMC College of Medicine
Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital Scholarship
As one of the nation’s foremost rehabilitation facilities for children and adults, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals offers many highly specialized programs and services for those who have suffered a debilitating injury or illness.
The hospital is a state-of-the-art facility where patients achieve the most independent and productive lifestyle possible after an accident, illness or injury, whether permanent or temporary.
Madonna is offering a scholarship of $5,000 per year for Traditional and Accelerated Nursing students who agree to a work commitment at Madonna for one year. This scholarship is renewable with a 2 year commitment and compliance with the scholarship criteria.

National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC)
TheNational Health Service Corpsis a program of the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration's Bureau of Primary Health Care, which is the focal point for providing primary health care to underserved and vulnerable populations.
The program offers payment of tuition and fees, books, supplies, equipment, and other reasonable education costs for up to four years of education, plus a monthly stipend.All funds are considered taxable by the IRS.
These disciplines/specialties are needed:
- Allopathic and osteopathic physicians in family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology.
- Family nurse practitioners.
- Primary care physician assistants.
- Certified nurse-midwives
For each year of support you receive, you must serve one year in a federally designated health professional shortage area of greatest need. Service commitment is a minimum of two years, and begins upon completion of your residency and/or training.

Plough Scholarship
Plough, Inc. is a recognized leader in ethical pharmaceuticals and proprietary medicines throughout the world. Scholarship funding was established in 1981 for Pharmacy students in tribute to the retail pharmacists of Nebraska. The scholarship requires aone-time application.
